Healthy Eating On the Go, Rebranding for Rollberry

The busy lifestyle of modern people sometimes makes healthy eating difficult to keep up. When it comes to meals, convenient and fast is usually the way to go for people nowadays. That's why Rollberry is trying to give solutions that combines both healthiness and easiness.

 

Rollberry is the new healthy brand of foods that values your time and your health. Designed for busy modern consumers who wants a fast meal that is instant and nutritious. The first category the brand wants to be known for, is the instant porridges. It is a traditional breakfast, or an ideal snack choice that can be fun, easy to eat and packed with all the energy, nutritions your body needs. The innovative part, is that it comes in a cup, that you can eat it on the go, anytime, anywhere.

The challenge

Bcbrandesign was challenged with the task to rebrand Rollberry. To rethink from the perspectives of the consumers, what would have been the brand they need, and how will it look like?

 

The previous logo was in brown color, with curvy elements and a leaf. The style was very feminine and bakery like. As the key target audience was 64% women aged 25-34, we need to design the brand to be more appealing to women. But we need to also remember the 37% men as the audience. As required from the rebranding project, the logo needs to be more trendy, the color of the brand should be redesigned, and integrate a berry in the logo instead of a leaf. These are among the biggest challenge and questions we have to solve when we rebrand the logo.

New logo and new identity

We initially tried various different color palettes and brand colors, such as navy blue, less saturated dark berry blue, white and so on. In the end, after some rounds of color choosing and profiling, we settled with the client on Crimson — a color between red and pink, a color of love, passion and loveliness.

 

And for the logo, we used an Arc warp shaped text to write out Rollberry, and we placed the berry that the client wanted on the letter O. The composition of the logo in the Arc warp shape makes the brand seem more reliable and trustworthy. The berry and the color makes the brand seem very lovable and passionate. It is a perfect solution as the base that speaks for the target mission and vision of the brand, this logo tells exactly that story for the brand without words and description, it's all there shown, from the logo design itself.

The New Packaging

It is an innovative way to eat porridge. The easy to go packaging format prepared in a cup is a new way of packaging for the porridge, yet we need to make comparison to some similar categories of food products when we research and re-imagine how the packaging design should look like.

 

The previous packaging design has a transparent plastic cap and the brief has required to remove it and leaving only the peel-off. The new packaging format we had was more similar to a yoghurt cup packaging with a round bottom.

 

We had the previous design for raspberry, strawberry and peach flavours. We had to redesign the packaging and develop 4 new flavours: blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and peach flavours. Our question about the raspberry and the strawberry was that the previous color code was a bit confusing for us. The strawberry flavour had a fuchsia color code and the raspberry had a more redish color, which in our opinions should be the other way around.

Before and After

Instant porridge is the ideal breakfast, and your friend for your digestive system. It is like a clock that runs in the background that help you get your energy for the day. So we had the idea to combine a clock concept into the packaging design. It also reminds you of fast, and instant. So we layout the flavours and the oat into a quarter of a clock shape, wrapping the bottom part of the packaging.

 

We left out the carton texture of the previous design, as the new packaging format is very rounded, liquid and fluid. And with a simple concept, the packaging layout and composition can be simplified, clear and straightforward.

 

Next, we made the key visual, the advertisement with the hero product - strawberry flavour. With 3D modeling and 3D rendering, we built the packaging of the product in cup. We made a series of lifestyle images for social media contents to highlight the brand and this hero product. The scenes were immersed in the atmosphere of pinkish and flowers, strawberries and oats. We also made an main advertisement in large print size, of the cup made out of grains of oats and strawberry flakes, scooping out from the cup, is a spoon with the ready-to-eat instant porridge.

Packaging Design Concept — Homemade

Rollton is the childhood memories of many Russian and CIS consumers. It is one of the most important noodles brand in the Russian and CIS food market.

 

We built and developed many wonderful projects with Rollton as a long-term partner. Our projects range from area of Logo Design, Brand Strategy, Naming, Brand Architecture, Key Visuals, 3D, to Packaging Design, etc.

 

The key objective of this project is to design Rollton hash brown (Роллтон Хашбраун) packaging for 4 flavors. This is one of the design concepts we made during the first round of presentations. Since it is a cooking product, we try to associate the product with a cozy vibe of home cooking. The simpleness of the design structure and the comfort of the color palette combination in this concept is to underline the UVP of "easy to cook".

The challenge

Rollton is a parent brand with many sub-brands and many categories of products from the brand itself. The complexity of the brand architecture and portfolio of products are to be considered carefully before the design. During the investigation and strategy planning stage, we have to look into a similar category of an existing product. With the help of our partner, we took reference on the Rollton mashed potato, as it has a similar method of preparation and is also a product that needs to be cooked from the brand.

 

We used the same center-aligned design structure, with all main elements at the center. Here, we used the logo's main heart shape and turned it into a main graphic pattern. The logo's heart shape became a main graphic on the top and the bottom of the background to create a dynamic yet simple division of space.

 

The theme and storytelling in this concept is homemade or home-cooking. We use a very harmonious orange that was taken from the hashbrown food zone image to create the packaging's main highlight color. The scrubby texture of the hashbrown was also reflected and reused as a texture of the background. The overall feeling of this packaging design is very comfortable, rustic, and home.

Option B

In the attempt of keeping the logo heart shape, we made a rework to the Homemade concept. The product name is made larger on the side, written vertically. And the symbols and stamps were laid out joyfully close to the dish.

 

It is the same concept and design elements, with different layout design, the overall feeling then became completely different. In this concept, the big letters on the left, written vertically gives a more young and modern vibe. The orange background of the left with its curvy flow of shape creates a dynamic and delightful feeling.

Packaging Design Concept — The idea of "Green"

Rollton is one of the leaders of food production and one of the most famous brands of noodles in Russian market and among CIS countries.

 

As a long-term partner with Rollton, we created and developed many amazing projects together from Brand Identity, Strategy, Logo Design to Packaging Design, 3D modeling, and much more. One of the projects we did here, is Packaging Design for Rollton Hash brown (Роллтон Хашбраун). The product consists of 4 SKUs, 4 flavours. Here is one of the testing concepts in the first round of our selections. The packaging design concept highlights the idea of "Green".

The challenge

Rollton is a mega brand with various categories of products and sub-brands. At the beginning of the project, we were thinking to put this product into a new sub-brand. The brand architecture of the brand was in question, and constantly being under reviewed when a new product come into place. A clear brand architecture that is easy to understand and comprehend by the mass consumer is necessary and essential in building the product portfolio and brand architecture. Our job was to design the product that fit into the brand architecture, but at the same time bring new ideas and freshness into the brand.

"Green" — The new and the modern

Our attempt in this concept was to come up with a new look following the same brand architecture. We referenced a similar product in this category - the Rollton Mashed Potatoes. This existing product in the brand is also a cooking product that is easy to prepare and easy to cook.

 

The current design was a centered layout structure, with the brand logo on top, product title, and other product information, with a colored texture background, followed by a big appetizing food zone at the bottom of the packaging design. We chose very joyful typography and icons to highlight the "easy to cook" feature and value proposition. The concept turned out to be exactly how we planned, it fits into the brand architecture by having a similar layout and design structure, but at the same time, seems modern and easy. The concept in the end seems new and fresh.

The passcode to luxury fashion exclusively for the retailers

Miko is an international trading and PR representative for Italian luxury fashion. It offers tailor-made selection of brands and advisory services for its large network of franchising multi-brand store owners and retailers.

 

Bcbrandesign is a partner company of Miko Fashion Group, and so we have redesigned, developed and implemented the brand and corporate identity system, as well as the logo design, web design and the brand messaging for Miko. Even though we know very well about Miko, we stuck with our procedure from a strategic analysis of the corporate's businesses, brand architecture, the brand philosophy, company mission, brand values, personality, etc, to formed a well-refined background profile of the company that is crucial for us to shape our perspectives more clearly for navigation of the design direction.

Brand Messaging Matters

In oppose to a product-based company who can show their products and features, for a service-based company, brand messaging becomes extremely important. How to develop a value proposition that is clear and relevant, brand tone and language that is strong, genuine, motivating, and at the same time, stay true to itself? To solve this problem, we went through series of research, analysis, intensive debate during the immersion before refining all the answers.

 

In the end, we managed to connect all the touch points with the brand personality, values, purpose, vision. And presented it with a highly abbreviated and simplified communication through the website and other marketing contents.

Fixer is a technology company that offers on-demand service straight to your home as fast as 2 hours. Right now they are focusing on home appliance services in the neighborhoods of Milan, Italy.

 

Over the last years, bcbrandesign has been the branding agency behind its visual communication. We started by conducting an in-depth market research, competitor analysis and industry overview. Then refined the essential concepts of brand positioning, brand strategy, purpose, values and messaging in alignment with the company's value proposition. Those keystones provide a clear guideline and path during the later stage of creation process when we realize of the visual identity system, logo design, brand personality, brand voice, taglines, UVP (unique value proposition), messaging style and content strategy.

Fixer — We bring back life to you

The memorable ones are always the simple ones. We have decided on using a pictorial icon mark, the image we used was rabbit. Its fast and lovable characteristics fit well with the brand personality and promise. Icon has the advantage of being memorable, recognizable and prominent.

 

The core values of Fixer's proposition is all about love, gratitude, care, passion and positiveness. We understand the pain points and the difficulties the customers are facing. Merely having your home appliance not working, might put your daily life at pause. Not to mention the not being able to choose their service time and the doubtful price. After we have discovered all these problems, the mission and aim become evident. So we came up with a double-entendre in the tagline that articulates Fixer not only bring back the life of the home appliance, but also help put your life back on track.

Align the values, purpose, beliefs. A good brand speaks.

"The world is consuming too fast, people chase for the NEW and discard their electronics at the slightest defect and inconvenience. But it is not just the indifference of the consumers, the economics is pushing the iteration and the e-waste, making products that are not to last. And when you are throwing away such a giant piece of electronic goods, where do you think it will end up?"

 

Fixar brings this value proposition and message to the audience, to remind the people to have a second thought about environmental care before discard. And they are operating in accordance with the brand values and beliefs to prevents the electronic waste and its severe consequences. At the same time, as an enterprise, the company stands for orderly, meticulousness, quality and convenience. We found the brand personality is very much in alignment with the Swiss spirit. So we have decided on using the color code of the Switzerland flag as one of the main colors in the brand's color palette. And we designed the logotype that best describes the brand personality and brand value that holds from within. A style of modern, orderly, sans-serif font, with the well-designed curves, carefully carved. It diminishes the sharpness and manifests care and a big heart.

Crafting an insight for businesses with artificial intelligence

Rivelat is a tech startup company in the field of AI (artificial intelligence).  It uses cognitive APIs to detect faces, identities and emotions through real-time video analysis and collects the bigdata for helping companies gain better understanding of their customers. And the field of face recognition is just a beginning, in the future, it will explore wide into many other aspects of AI, to bring more truth and insights to the light.

 

We have created the logo, brand identity, visual system from scratch. During our immersion, we started from exploring the meaning behind the brand, the mission and vision, the company value, brand purpose, and the reason why. We refined all the answers into a clear list and we were ready to develop the brand identity from the core to the surface. After a couple rounds of prototyping, we have come down to the drafts that were closest to the ideal.

Cut to the chase

We have come to a decision to make the company logo as a simple, meaningful and memorable icon, and not using any logotype at all. The message is more clarified, powerful and profound. We want the icon to have multiple indications and senses while at the same time maintaining a minimal form. So during the ideation, we combined all the letters of RIVELAT in a shared space and created an icon with implications of R, I, V, L, A. As we moved forward to the final drafts, we had a hand-drawn draft and one that contains the triangle shape(truth). In the end, we nailed down to the version with more significance and aesthetical balance.

Expect the truth, revealed

Rivelat means "Reveal" in Latin. To reveal the truth is a constant mission that the company will hold in the long-term. It would acts as a light, that shines in the darkness, illuminating the truth.  The tagline simply extends the meaning one step further. We have defined the brand personality as "mature but not boring, simple, self-confident, sense of certainty (safe)".
